2010 Summer Session
Students will be tested upon arrival to determine their level of proficiency in the English language. These are holistic classes and in each session students will receive instruction in Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading, and Structure of the English Language.
Topics are taught with fun activities which make it impossible not to learn the language.
Finally, at the end of their session students will be awarded with a certificate of hours attended and exit level.
Classes for Basic Students
Throughout this session Beginning Language students will cover the following:
Personal and Family Information,
Common Everyday Activities and Language, (Verbs, Present, Past, and Future Tenses)
Numbers/Time/Money/Calendar,
Types of Housing and Communities– People and Physical Descriptions,
Food,
Colors
and Clothing.

Classes for Intermediate Students
Vocabulary in Context – (appropriate level)
This class features abundant practice to learn 260 English vocabulary words and how to properly use them. Each activity reinforces the students’ knowledge of the words in each chapter. Chapter and Unit tests are given. 1 hour daily.
Intermediate Grammar Instruction
We will work on difficult concepts in English Grammar, seldom taught in international classes. Concentration will be on preposition/verb relationship, perfect tenses, comparatives, etc. 1 hour daily.
Reading Comprehension
Daily classroom readings (to work on pronunciation issues), plus home work reading assignments with a bi-weekly book report. Popular subjects on an intermediate level are designed for student enjoyment and success. 1 hour instruction, and 30 minutes of reading at home.
Listening & Speaking
Popular topics are designed to assist students in increasing their understanding of spoken English. Weekly projects and activities will be implemented to encourage the student to learn not to translate from their native language into English. 1 hour.
Writing – Form and Function
This class entails basic instruction on the rules and guidelines for writing in the English language. The goal of this class is for each student to learn how to write the perfect paragraph in form and content. 1 hour daily.

Classes for Advanced Students
The Writer’s Workshop – Building College Writing Skills - This class prepares students for Essay Writing, clarifies the process of writing excellent essays as well as understanding the different types of essays required to be successful in the academic world. 1.5 hours per day.
Advanced Grammar – This class identifies student’s individual weaknesses in grammar and addresses them with instruction and worksheets. Goals are to improve written as well as spoken grammar. 1 hour per day.
Ten Steps to Building College Reading (Study) Skills – The purpose of this class is to develop effective reading, study skills and effective thinking. These skills will support any student in their transition to college level academics. 1.0 hour per day.
TOEFL and IELTS Test Preparation - Class is designed to prepare all students for high level testing in the English language. This class features Listening/Speaking, Reading Comprehension, and successful Essay Writing. It also provides support and instruction in note taking, paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing. Student will sit for seven full length model tests for the Test of English as a Foreign Language. 2 hours per day.
